I’m taking a short break from all the grizzly bear posts for this wildflower shot I got shortly after it got too dark to continue photographing one of the bears. I was hoping for a better composition, but the light was changing so fast, I was lucky just to get this shot off!
Given all the wildlife posts I’ve been posting, it’s easy to overlook the fact (in some shots) that wildflowers are in full bloom here in Jackson Hole! Seems late? It is. With all the snow that was still on the ground, wildflowers got off to a late start, but with all the warm weather we’ve had, they’re doing their best to make up for lost time.
As mentioned, I was out photographing one of the grizzlies when it got too dark to get any decent shots. I noticed a soft glow behind the clouds of Mount Moran and immediately set up a shot with some balsamroot wildflowers in the foreground. I only got a couple of shots off before the light began to fade from the scene.
Mike,
I just found your blog through a link on twitter via BretEdgePhototography. I’m enjoying working my way back through it. Having done graduate work in Laramie and having spent some time in the area, I’m enjoying some of your work from the lesser-known surroundings of Jackson. For someone who seems to emphasize photography of animals, this is a really nice landscape shot. Really nice. Congratulations.
Thank you very much, Mark! I certainly love to get to any spot that would make a good photo, and there’s certainly no exception in this area! While I do love to emphasize wildlife, if I don’t come across any on a particular day, I’ll make the most of the landscapes I see as well. In fact this shot was taken right after photographing a grizzly bear.
