Yucca Plant in White Sands National Monument

Yucca Plant in Sand

The best time to visit White Sands National Park, of course, is either during sunrise or sunset so that the plants cast long shadows stretching out over the dunes.  Of those two times though I’d much rather go during sunrise, when this shot was taken. While we were there at that time we saw only one other car.

The sparse vegetation makes for fantastic subjects in the bright sand. It takes only a minimal amount of hiking to see virtually unlimited compositions unfolding.
