A Spring Thing Video Compilation

It’s become an unfortunate habit where I send in a camera or two for repair, and that’s when I go back and compile all my recent videos together. The 7D is officially on its way back to Canon to get exchanged out once and for all. It was working well enough for most instances, so I was holding onto it for just a bit longer, at least until I got my 5D back. But then I came back home the other night after standing in 40 degree rain, sleet and snow for three hours catching a mild hypothermia while watching grizzly bear #610 and her two new cubs, only to find that I didn’t have one sharp shot out of the 600+ shots I got. Since the UPS label was still there from Canon, I packaged it up and sent it off the very next morning. As for the 5D, I had dropped it on the ground breaking it open a couple of years ago, and even though it still worked perfectly, unfortunately voided my warranty. But thanks to some redeeming care from CPS, they helped me get the costs down and it’s currently undergoing its necessary repairs once and for all.

So, while I’m currently camera-less, I figured it’d be a good time to go through some old videos and photos. I started with some recent footage I got, mostly some time-lapses and bison calves as well as the video I did manage to get of grizzly bear #610 and her cubs as well as the grizzly bear, ‘Scarface,’ in Yellowstone National Park.

The opening bison calves were shot in and around the Lamar Valley of Yellowstone National Park and were kind enough to display some jubilant energy while I was watching. At 1:07 are white-faced ibises. They occasionally make very brief and rare appearances around the Jackson Hole area during their migration. They happened to show up on a rainy day, so getting good shots was a little tricky. At 1:25 and the two clips following are the grizzly bear ‘Scarface’ of Yellowstone National Park. In the first of the three clips, there’s also another sow with two cubs in the background. At one point, there was even yet another grizzly bear in the background near the sow and cubs! It was quite the sight to see five grizzlies all in the same vicinity! All three of those clips were in the Lamar Valley of Yellowstone National Park. At 1:56 is grizzly bear #610 of Grand Teton National Park, daughter of the famous grizzly bear #399. The two clips following show her first set of cubs that were born this year, thus making #399 a grandmother. The music is by Francois Bonne.
