The Mogollon Rim rises as high as 8000-9000 feet in some places and cuts through the middle of Arizona creating the southwestern border of the Colorado Plateau. One of my favorite hikes while living in Arizona was Bear Mountain in Sedona, Arizona. It starts out in the high desert among the sandstone, red cliffs and juniper trees and eventually climbs up on top of the limestone up into the pine trees at the top. Another from Havasupai in the archives. This one is of the more famous Havasu Falls, one of the most photographed waterfalls in the world. Havasu Creek pours over a 100 foot cliff into spectacular turquoise pools in the midst of a high desert canyon. The area now, however, looks nothing like this.… Keep reading...
