Tortilla Mountains Information
The Tortilla Mountains are one of the most remote sections of the Arizona Trail. Very few people venture into the rugged Sonoran Desert wilderness, something mining companies hope to exploit. In the beautiful and relaxing area of Ripsey Wash, a controversial mine tailings deposit is proposed to go in, forever altering and damaging the landscape for a temporary short-term interest. Controversy aside, the area also boasts dramatic, but relatively small mountains such as “The Big Hill.” From on top of the hill, sweeping views of more rugged and larger mountains can be seen to the north. To the north, the landscape flattens out beyond Ripsey Wash.
