Hannagan Meadow in Eastern Arizona is the only sign of civilization you’ll find for dozens of miles along Highway 191. The highway climbs to more than 9,000 feet elevation keeping the area cool in the summer months making the area a nice getaway from the desert heat. The first big stop on the way into Yellowstone National Park from the South Entrance is the West Thumb Geyser Basin. There’s all kinds of opportunities at any geyser basin for abstract photography, but for some reason I’m continually drawn to West Thumb, perhaps because it’s right on Yellowstone Lake. I returned yesterday from a three-day camping trip up in Yellowstone National Park. Most of the back roads and trails were still closed so I was forced to stick to the main roads. Despite that, I was fortunate enough to happen upon a slew of wildlife, including this black wolf.
